An emergency psycho-social plan of work in libraries post-Israeli aggression

The role that is played now by programs of psychological support is important, whereby it specifies the mechanisms and the first reactions on part of the children, and which direction it will take, drawing attention that these reactions, if handled professionally and scientifically, can adapt, but if not handled professionally and objectively, will fail.

Some children will develop some symptoms, which affects their performance in all directions, and there have deeper psychological troubles that need professional interference. Trying to know what the first responses are, is very important in specifying the problem, and helping the children understand the behavioral, passionate, and cognitive changes in them, to get them back to the state of equilibrium. So it is important to deal by practical application in changing the behavior of children who are being dealt with.

Through my personal experience with the children within the program, many behaviors expressed needed change and improvement towards a positive and appropriate direction. So it was important to put a plan of action which includes these activities to support:

= The child’s feels that he is in constant need of a supporter who stands by him and has the skill to help him especially after the horrific war that the Palestinian child was subjected to, and the terrible circumstances he is living in.

= Language communication with the child.

= Offering psychological support and guidance.

= Stress- release in different ways.

= Reducing the effects of violence

= How children deal with difficult events or crisis

= Learn how to solve your problems by yourself

= What our bodies tell us

= Our faces and fear

The plan of action includes a number of activities, among them:

= Recreational activities

= Psycho- social support activities: psychodrama/ parachute games/ meaningful cultural games

= Bibliotherapy reading and discussing attractive stories and also relevant stories.

= Competition activities

= Showing meaningful films

= Real stories from the last Israeli aggression aiming at studying, counseling and guidance and offering psychological support

= Brain storming activities

= Free drawing activities

= My story and displacement
